1. Why is it hard to locate a trooper or individual who was a
member of a California unit?
A. The book "California Men in the War of the Rebellion" (printed
in 1890 by the State of California) didn't have a name index, and is difficult
to find a copy of.
I made a photocopy of this book, and divided it into the 14 chapters for each
of the 14 California units and created a name index and history for each unit.
I also show in which counties or states where California units were enlisted
or stationed, and where skirtmishes or battles occurred. I have spent years
searching graveyards, and have located graves of some California Vets that are
not marked or recorded.
2. What other information is in each volume?
A. The history of each unit. I spent years archiving little known facts and
information about these units. I spent years looking in County Libraries, County
Museums,Cemeteries, and talking with other historians, and put this information
into these volumes. My basic information started with the book mentioned above,
but goes far beyond that. During my years of research I have unearthed
information that is extremely difficult if not impossible for others to find.
In addition to this, I have found some "information" written to be
"factual" that is in fact wrong. I correct this in my publications.
3. What do these volumes cost?
A. Prices vary somewhat by the size of the volume, and the average price is
about $30. plus $5. postage and handling.
Note:
The volumes that I have assembled here contain mostly information that is
basically public record. Some of these public records are very hard
to find. I have spent years assembling this information (and other hard to find
information) in a way that makes it easier to understand.
